Salvation Through Faith
In this blog post, let's delve into the topic of salvation through faith, using the story of the woman who suffered from hemorrhages and was healed by touching the fringe of Jesus' cloak.
Mark 5:25-34:
"A woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse." (25-26)
Living in despair for twelve years, the woman's condition worsened. Then something happened. She heard about "Jesus." News had spread about a man from Galilee who was doing unheard-of things. He opened the eyes of the blind, made the lame walk, healed a man with paralysis to leap up, caused a man who couldn't speak from birth to speak, and made a deaf man hear. Astonishing deeds!
Upon hearing about Jesus, this woman began to hold him in her heart, continuously thinking about him. If the rumors about Jesus were true, surely he had the power to heal any illness. She became convinced that if she could just meet Jesus, her illness would be cured. Thus, the desire to see and meet Jesus intensified.
"Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ." (Romans 10:17)
As this verse illustrates, faith comes from hearing. One must first hear the gospel for faith to arise, and when faith arises, precious fruit is produced. Faith doesn't simply occur on its own; it must be heard first. Perhaps this woman heard people talking about Jesus as they passed by. Someone surely must have told her about the remarkable deeds of Jesus. Though they may have spoken casually, to her, it was the gospel.
The faith of a woman
"This is because she thought, 'If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.'" (Mark 5:28)
She had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years and had tried every possible remedy, but nothing worked. One day, she heard about Jesus and believed that he could heal her. She repeated to herself that if she could just touch Jesus' clothes, she would be healed. Finally, she saw Jesus and touched his clothes, and immediately she was healed.
The story teaches us an important lesson about the power of our thoughts and words. What we say and think can either bring hope and blessings or despair and curses. The woman repeated her belief in her mind until it became a reality. We must be careful with our thoughts and words and learn to interpret situations through a biblical lens. When we include Jesus in our conversations with ourselves, we start to respond to him accordingly.
When Jesus asked who had touched him, he was not asking because he did not know, but because he wanted to highlight the difference between those who touched him physically and those who touched him with faith. Only the woman who had faith in Jesus experienced his healing power. This teaches us that it's not enough to physically touch Jesus, we must touch him with faith to experience his power.
The Vessel of Faith
the story of the woman healed through faith serves as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of belief. Through her unwavering faith and persistent prayer, she was able to reach out to Jesus and experience miraculous healing.
Her story underscores the importance of faith in our lives and the profound impact it can have on our circumstances. Just as this woman's faith led to her salvation, may we also cultivate a faith that moves mountains and leads us closer to God.
Let us strive to deepen our relationship with the divine, anchoring ourselves in the teachings of Christ and interpreting the world through a lens of faith. As we navigate life's challenges and uncertainties, may our faith serve as a vessel through which we receive divine grace and experience the fullness of God's love and redemption.
